Growing, Gardening & Learning at Clapton Park Children’s Centre
Our Gardening Club takes place every Wednesday at 10:30am, giving parents and children the opportunity to spend time with Gavin, our gardener, and get stuck into the wonderful world of growing! Together, families can plant seeds, water plants, learn about plant life and discover which fruits and vegetables can be grown right here in our garden.
But the growing doesn’t stop there! Some of our wonderful Clapton Park staff have very green fingers, meaning our children have access to the kitchen garden every day. They can take part in caring for the garden, helping with watering, planting, checking on our plants and taking responsibility for looking after the space.
One of the best parts? Getting to taste what we grow!
Last year, during one of our campfire cooking sessions, the children picked fresh green tomatoes from the garden and worked together to cook them down into a delicious green tomato chutney. From seed to plate, our kitchen garden gives children the chance to experience where food comes from, develop practical skills and, of course, enjoy the very tasty rewards of their hard work!
